Hats off for the eleven runners who accomplished the Badwater Ultra Cup in 2019!
The BADWATER ULTRA CUP is a three-event series comprising the 51-mile Badwater Cape Fear in March, the 81-mile Badwater Salton Sea in late April, and the 135-mile Badwater 135 in July. Those runners who complete all three full-distance events in the same calendar year are featured on the Badwater website and their virtues are extolled throughout the Internet and in BADWATER Magazine. This year's recipients of the coveted Patagonia Badwater Ultra Cup vest at the post-race pizza party in Lone Pine are:
Pamela Chapman Markle
Lisa Micheletti DeVona
Wendy Coulson Murray
Joshua Stevens (name won't tag)
Pam is a 63 year old ultra runner, certified nurse anesthetist, mother of 3 adult daughters and grandmother of 6. She ran her first race of any distance at the age of 55, the Rocky Racoon 100. Since then she has completed many ultras including the Tahoe 200, Brazil 135, Badwater 135 (3 finishes), keys 100 (6 finishes), Umstead 100, Kansas Rails to Trails 100, Javelina 100, Arkansas Traveller 100 and others.
She currently holds the all-time USA age group records in the 100 mile and 12, 24 and 48 hour races. She is the only 2019 National Champion in the 100k and holds the age group course records at the Badwater 135, Badwater Cape Fear, Badwater Salton Sea, Brazil 135, and is currently pursuing other national and world records. You MUST have questions for her... let us know in the comments!
