This weekend training was a marathon on Saturday and an easy run on Sunday to work out the lactic acid. Spencer went trailing behind me on the outdoor elliptical machine which is much harder than the bike.
Although his endurance work has been steadily improving he learned a great lesson from Saturdays workout. People ask me what is the difference from 26.2 to 100 miles? My answer to that is it is all mental toughness. The mind has got to be prepared. It has to lead with confidence, and know the discipline on race day is finally paying off.
It is better stated by, Vince Lombardi:
“Mental toughness is many things. It is humility, because it behooves all of us to remember that simplicity is the sign of greatness and meekness is the sign of true strength. Mental toughness is spartanism with qualities of sacrifice, self-denial, dedication. It is fearlessness, and it is love.”
